B1/B2 visitor visa
One of the most common U.S. visas. Depending on the purpose of your travel, it covers temporary visits to the United States for qualifying business and tourism activities.
What it can be used for
A B-2 or combined B1/B2 visa can be appropriate for temporary visits such as:
- Holidays and tourism
- Visiting family and friends
- Certain medical treatment
- Certain social events
- Other qualifying temporary visits
B-1 business activities can include certain business meetings, conferences, consultations and contract negotiations.
A visitor visa does not generally permit you to work or live permanently in the United States. Understanding that distinction matters, and it is one of the things we go through with you.
Do I qualify?
Every application is different. A consular officer considers whether an applicant meets the legal requirements for the visa requested. For visitor visa applicants, relevant considerations can include:
- The genuine purpose of the trip
- How long you intend to remain in the United States
- Your financial ability to cover the trip
- Your employment and circumstances at home
- Family and other ties outside the United States
- Your intention to leave the United States after your visit
- Your immigration and travel history
- The accuracy and consistency of the information you provide
